Tindouf Provincial Assembly Members Visit the Council of the Nation: A Step Towards Strengthening Parliamentary Culture

Algiers, Algeria | November 28th, 2024 — In an effort to foster greater engagement and understanding of Algeria’s legislative framework, members of the People’s Provincial Assembly of Tindouf paid a formative visit to the Council of the Nation on Wednesday. This initiative, part of a training program running from November 23 to 29, underscores Algeria’s commitment to nurturing parliamentary culture and enhancing the skills of regional representatives, according to an official statement from the Council of the Nation.

Acting on behalf of the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, the delegation was warmly received by Nadjia Ouadjdi Demerdji, Vice-President in charge of field activities and promoting parliamentary culture. Joining her in this occasion were El Eid Madhoui, Chairman of the Education, Training, Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Religious Affairs Committee; Mohamed Salmi, Senator representing Tindouf; the Secretary-General of the Council; and other senior members and staff of the legislative body.

The visiting delegation toured key facilities within the Council, including the library, committee rooms, the main plenary hall, and various technical offices. Comprehensive briefings were provided to the guests, elaborating on the pivotal role of the Council of the Nation in Algeria’s governance. Topics covered included its legislative functions, mechanisms for overseeing the executive branch, and its integral position within the national institutional framework.

This visit reflects Algeria’s broader strategy to bridge local and national governance by equipping provincial representatives with the tools and insights needed to engage effectively in the legislative process. By fostering mutual understanding and collaboration, this initiative aims to reinforce the principles of democratic governance and institutional harmony.
