Algiers, Algeria | July 10th, 2024 — The Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi-Ouzou, inaugurated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Wednesday, stands as an architectural marvel built to international standards, signifying a major step forward in sports development for the wilaya. With a seating capacity of 50,000, the stadium is located at the Oued Fali excellence hub, at the western exit of Tizi-Ouzou, and is part of a comprehensive Olympic sports complex.

State-of-the-Art Facilities for JSK

The stadium will serve as the new home for Algeria’s most decorated club, Jeunesse Sportive de Kabylie (JSK), providing a facility that matches its prestigious status and complies with global standards. The main structure of the complex includes a centralized technical management system (CTMS) that ensures optimal functionality. This advanced system oversees video projection, surveillance, climate control, and the operation of 400 projectors, seamlessly integrating into a facility that also features a 6,500-seat athletics stadium, a natural grass training field, and parking for 3,800 vehicles.

Enhancing Match Day Experience

Designed with operational efficiency in mind, the stadium includes multiple access routes connecting to RN 12, the northern bypass, and the Bouïde interchange. This ensures a smooth exit for supporters and helps prevent congestion, making match days comfortable for players, fans, and media personnel alike.

Honoring Hocine Aït Ahmed

Named after the late Hocine Aït Ahmed, a key figure in Algeria’s nationalist movement, the stadium honors his enduring legacy. Aït Ahmed’s political journey began early within the Algerian People’s Party (PPA) and saw him leading the Special Organization (OS) in 1947 after Mohamed Belouizdad’s death. His contributions included active participation in the planning of the 1949 Oran post office attack, attending the 1955 Bandung Conference in Indonesia, and representing the National Liberation Front (FLN) at the United Nations in New York in 1956.

On October 22, 1956, Aït Ahmed was among the five historic leaders of the Algerian War of Independence whose plane was hijacked by the French army, leading to their imprisonment until Algeria gained independence in 1962. The Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium not only provides a state-of-the-art venue for sports but also stands as a symbol of national pride, commemorating the enduring spirit of one of Algeria’s most revered freedom fighters.
