Tourism in Algeria: Nine new hotels built in coastal towns, additional 38 structures set to be delivered soon

ALGIERS- The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Mokhtar Didouche, announced the construction of nine new hotel establishments in coastal towns, as well as the promotion of tourist services to ensure a successful 2023 summer season. During a plenary session at the Council of the Nation, devoted to oral questions, Didouche stated that these new establishments provide 800 beds and 400 jobs, with an additional 38 structures set to be delivered in the second half of the year.

The Minister emphasized the importance of coordination with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the summer season. He also revealed plans to operate university residence halls, allocate space for family camps, organize traditional industry exhibitions, tourist trips, and other activities.

In addition to the coastal towns, the wilaya of Djanet has also been approved for seven new hotel projects, with an estimated capacity of 1,400 beds and over 700 jobs. The Minister stressed the need to develop domestic tourism, given the country’s natural and historical potential and qualifications.

The tourism sector and traditional industries play a crucial role in promoting local development and diversifying the national economy. As such, the Minister reaffirmed the importance of these sectors and their potential for growth and success.

Tourism in Algeria 

Algeria has a great potential for tourism due to its beautiful beaches, rich history, and diverse culture.  The country has much to offer visitors, including the ancient Roman ruins of Timgad and the medieval ruins of the Casbah of Algiers. Algeria also has a diverse landscape, including the Sahara Desert, the Mediterranean Coastline, and the Atlas Mountains. The country’s rich history and culture, including its Arab and Berber heritage, have influenced its cuisine, music, and architecture, making it an attractive destination for cultural tourism.

In recent years, Algeria has been actively promoting its tourism industry and has increased its infrastructure to accommodate visitors. The country has invested in new hotels, airports, and transportation systems, making it easier for visitors to travel around the country. Although in the early stages, it is expected that Algeria’s tourism industry will expand in the years to come, boosting its economy and promoting a greater appreciation of the country’s culture and heritage.
