ALGIERS– Tayeb Zitouni, Algerian Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, emphasized the significance of reinforcing economic and trade partnerships between Algeria and China during a recent address to the Chinese press. The minister underscored the country’s determination to elevate the existing relations to a level that reflects the deep-rooted historical political bonds shared between the two nations.
With Chinese businesses already holding a dominant position in Algeria, particularly in infrastructure development, Minister Zitouni acknowledged the critical role played by Chinese entrepreneurs. He highlighted that Algeria is poised to embark on a momentous development plan and has set its sights on joining prestigious international spaces like BRICS. The minister expressed confidence in Algeria’s potential to contribute meaningfully to these platforms and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to forging mutually beneficial partnerships with China.
In a statement to Algiers International TV, Trade Minister Tayeb Zitouni revealed a significant breakthrough – an agreement in principle between Algeria and China to facilitate the entry of Algerian products into the Chinese market. The minister described their visit to China as a fraternal one, aimed at strengthening commercial and economic ties between the two nations.
Minister Zitouni further emphasized the desire for China to become Algeria’s foremost trade partner, given the substantial trade volume currently in favor of China. While acknowledging the existing trade imbalance, he disclosed that a business delegation had accompanied the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the visit to explore opportunities in industrialization, investment, export, import, and other strategic and geopolitical matters.
To address the trade imbalance, the Algerian-Chinese joint committee will soon be established to determine a comprehensive list of materials available in Algeria for export to China. The objective is to create a more balanced trade relationship between the two nations, with a particular focus on bridging the gap between imports and exports.
Minister Zitouni expressed a keen interest in exploring technological transformations in the automobile sector. He mentioned the possibility of manufacturing electric and non-electric vehicles in Algeria with the support and expertise of Chinese partners. Such a project would not only signify a major step towards technological advancement for Algeria, but also foster stronger bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
The President’s visit to China marked a pivotal moment in the journey towards enhancing economic ties and creating partnerships based on mutual benefit. The potential joint ventures and agreements are expected to open new horizons for both nations, promoting inclusive growth and sustainable development.
As Algeria and China embark on this journey of economic collaboration, it is evident that the spirit of friendship and the commitment to a win-win relationship will pave the way for a prosperous future for both nations.
