Algiers, Algeria | September 1st, 2024 — In a landmark achievement for Algeria’s trade and export sectors, Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, inaugurated the first-ever shipment of locally produced paper bags to three Arab markets, marking a crucial step in the nation’s economic trajectory.
During the launch event, Zitouni lauded the transformation of the exporting company—once reliant solely on imports—into a leading exporter, attributing this success to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visionary foreign trade policy. This policy, Zitouni emphasized, has not only bolstered local production but also generated wealth and employment opportunities nationwide.
“The export of these paper bags stands as a testament to our ability to fulfill domestic market needs with a product that was previously heavily dependent on imports,” Zitouni affirmed. He highlighted that these paper bags adhere to stringent international standards, making them suitable for distribution by renowned global brands—a testament to Algeria’s increasing competitiveness on the world stage.
Zitouni also urged small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the recycling and waste management sectors to explore the potential of paper bag manufacturing. He pointed out that this industry offers opportunities to diversify their operations and tap into foreign markets, thereby contributing to the broader national goal of economic diversification.
Reaffirming the government’s steadfast commitment to supporting and encouraging domestic producers in penetrating new markets, Zitouni announced that this initial shipment is the first of many, aimed at solidifying Algeria’s presence in Arab and African markets. This initiative not only highlights Algeria’s burgeoning export capabilities but also heralds a new era where locally produced goods are poised to succeed on the global stage.
