Algiers, Algeria | June 17th, 2024 — The long-anticipated train service between Algeria and Tunisia is finally seeing significant progress. Farid Halliche, the central customer service director at the National Railway Transport Company (SNTF), has confirmed the relaunch of this crucial project.
During an interview on the national radio station Channel 3 on June 13, Halliche shared exciting updates. He announced that the project is moving forward with substantial advancements, including the successful completion of test shuttles. This development marks a critical step toward the operational phase of the cross-border train service.
Adding to the good news, Toufik Boufayed, the general director of the National Company of Tunisian Railways (SNCFT), revealed the pricing details for the train service. A one-way ticket will be priced between 40 and 50 Tunisian dinars. Based on the official exchange rate, this translates to approximately 1,728 to 2,160 Algerian dinars. On the black market, the fare might range from 3,600 to 4,500 Algerian dinars.
The train service between Tunisia and Algeria will operate daily, with trains alternating between Annaba and Tunis each day. This schedule aims to provide a consistent and reliable means of transportation for passengers traveling between the two nations.
