ALGIERS- The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, under the leadership of President Akinwumi Adesina, has expressed its unwavering support for the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project. This ambitious initiative aims to connect Nigeria to Europe via Algeria, spanning a distance of 4,000 km and involving multiple countries.
During a press conference held at the International Congress Center in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, President Adesina emphasized the importance of the TSGP project, which has received backing from both the AfDB and the African Union. The project is a significant investment that holds great potential for the region.
In July 2022, the Energy Ministers of Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the construction of the TSGP. This megaproject is part of the NEPAD program and represents a major step towards establishing a regional infrastructure of international significance. Once operational, the TSGP will also provide much-needed energy to the countries of the Sahel.
The AfDB’s support for the TSGP project underscores its commitment to promoting sustainable development and economic growth across the African continent. As a leading regional financial institution, the AfDB is proud to play a key role in advancing this critical initiative.
