Algeria’s Presidential Elections: Transparency, Integrity of Electoral Process Underscored by Candidate Representation at Polling Stations, Affirms ANIE President Mohamed Charfi

Algiers, Algeria | September 7th, 2024 — In a recent statement, Mohamed Charfi, the President of Algeria’s National Independent Electoral Authority (ANIE), emphasized the transparency and credibility of the electoral process, particularly in light of the presence of representatives from all three presidential candidates at polling stations across the country. Charfi remarked that the presence of these representatives is a clear reflection of the integrity and fairness with which the elections are being conducted.

Highlighting the logistical magnitude of the presidential elections, Charfi revealed that around 63,000 polling offices have been mobilized to ensure a seamless voting experience for Algerians. This expansive network of offices spans the entire national territory, ensuring that voters from the most remote areas can exercise their democratic rights. Supporting this infrastructure is a vast workforce of approximately 500,000 supervisors who have been tasked with overseeing the electoral process and ensuring that it adheres to the highest standards of fairness and transparency.

Charfi expressed confidence in the system, noting that the presence of candidate representatives at each of these polling stations adds an additional layer of scrutiny. “This representation ensures that all stages of the voting process are closely monitored, reinforcing the trust of the electorate in the system,” he affirmed.

He further noted that the involvement of the candidates’ representatives serves as a testament to the electoral authority’s commitment to ensuring that no irregularities occur during the voting process. Their presence guarantees that any potential discrepancies can be reported and addressed in real time, thus bolstering the credibility of the entire electoral process.
