Triumphant Reception in Constantine as Eleven Political Parties Rally Behind Tebboune’s Campaign

Algiers, Algeria | August 22nd, 2024 — The presidential race in Algeria is heating up, and candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune is taking a commanding lead over his rivals. With his campaign gathering pace, Tebboune’s recent electoral rally in Constantine, held last Sunday, was nothing short of a breakthrough moment.
Dubbed a “bombshell” by political analysts, the meeting attracted thousands of enthusiastic supporters from 18 wilayas of Eastern Algeria, affirming the region’s overwhelming support for the incumbent President. This passionate display of loyalty, particularly in the East—commonly referred to as “El Cherk”—demonstrates the deep connection Tebboune holds with the Algerian populace, who affectionately call him “Âami (Uncle) Tebboune.”
The Constantine rally marked a turning point in the campaign, underscoring Tebboune’s resonance with the hopes and dreams of his fellow citizens. The groundswell of support is not limited to the East; Tebboune’s campaign teams have crisscrossed the country, spreading his message from the West to the South and North. Everywhere they go, Tebboune’s popularity continues to rise, transcending regional divides and proving his appeal to the diverse fabric of Algerian society.
In the coming days, Tebboune plans to continue his outreach, with scheduled visits to various other wilayas to connect with more supporters and reinforce the vital bond between himself and the Algerian people. His campaign teams, led by his campaign director Brahim Merad, are working tirelessly to prepare for these upcoming events, ensuring that every detail is perfectly orchestrated.
A key development in the campaign was a coordination meeting chaired by Merad on Monday, where Tebboune secured the backing of 11 additional political parties. This impressive lineup joins the four core parties that initially supported Tebboune: the FLN, RND, El-Moustakbal Front, and El-Bina. These new allies include Tajamoue Amal El Djazaïr (TAJ), Algerian Youth Movement, Algerian Renewal Party (PRA), El-Wassit Essiyassi, Union of Democratic and Social Forces (UFDS), the National Understanding Movement (MEN), Good Governance Front (FBG), El-Karama, Talaie El-Hourriyet, National Militancy Front (FMN), Algerian Green Party for Development (PAVD), National Front for Social Justice (FNJS), El-Islah Movement, New Algeria Front (FAN), and Freedom and Justice Party (PLJ).
These newly aligned parties wasted no time in mobilizing for Tebboune. The very next day, the FAN organized a meeting in the wilaya of Khenchela, underscoring the rapid and widespread action taken by his supporters. Meanwhile, the Alliance of Parliamentary Majority Parties—comprising the FLN, RND, El-Moustakbal Front, and Sawt Ech-Chaab—turned their focus to the Kabylie region, a historically challenging area for political campaigns.
Despite Kabylie’s reputation for political resistance, Tebboune’s campaign managed to make significant inroads. Lamine Osmani, leader of the El-Moustakbal Front, delivered a successful speech in the heart of Djurdjura, holding a morning meeting in Ain El Hammam before moving to Boudjima in the afternoon to rally additional voters. Likewise, Abdelkrim Benmbarek, Secretary General of the FLN, led gatherings in Tizi-Ouzou and Bouira, where he effectively urged Tebboune’s supporters to vote en masse on September 7.
The momentum behind Tebboune is unmistakable. Political parties, civil society organizations, religious associations, and ordinary citizens are uniting to promote the candidate they believe embodies national consensus.
As the campaign builds, expectations for Tebboune’s next rally are soaring, with observers predicting that it will solidify his path to a triumphant second term. With less than a month until the election, Tebboune’s supporters are confident that nothing will stand in the way of his march toward securing a renewed mandate to continue leading Algeria. His vision for the future, coupled with his undeniable rapport with the Algerian people, positions him as the frontrunner in this critical race.
