ALGIERS- In the social dimension of the extended normalization cooperation axis between Abu Dhabi and Rabat, the United Arab Emirates chose to send its young citizen “Ghaith,” host of the popular program “Qalbi Atma’an” known for its “humanitarian” work, to conduct one of the episodes of the new season of his program. The stated goal was to “assist” the victims of the earthquake in Al-Hoceima. However, the media work contributed to highlighting the hidden image of the disaster caused by the Makhzen regime after the earthquake.
The Moroccan media fell into the trap of the Emirati “humanitarian media work” without realizing it, eagerly publishing excerpts from the posts of the Emirati youth Ghaith across his social media platforms, in addition to the video broadcasted on YouTube.
During the eleventh episode of the seventh season of the “Qalbi Atma’an” program, Ghaith showcased the life challenges faced by Moroccan families affected by the earthquake in the village of Imikdil, Morocco. Ghaith witnessed their lives in tents that were supposed to serve as temporary shelters, but they are still living under them, enduring the cold weather and heat alike for the sixth month in a row, suffering from ongoing living difficulties.
Ghaith captured images of the daily hardships of the earthquake victims, delving into the importance of compassion and giving during crises. He also exchanged lessons learned from the Quran about the virtue of kindness and the love of goodness, sharing their hopes and prayers for a better life in their homes, which they are still waiting for the Makhzen to deliver.
Through his official Instagram account, Ghaith posted a video from the Al-Hoceima region, precisely in the Imikdil commune, accompanied by a comment stating: “The village of Imikdil in Morocco is one of 2000 villages affected by the earthquake that shook our hearts. Stories and tales described by the people of the village will express their feelings at that moment.”
The residents of the village, who were affected by the earthquake in Al-Hoceima, appeared in the first part of the episode, recounting their stories and describing their feelings at that moment. The “humanitarian media program” showcased their suffering, which the Makhzen regime insisted on prolonging until Ramadan after they endured a harsh winter season, deprived of food and warmth under tents that the winds almost blew away.
During this segment, Ghaith announced his assistance to the people of Imikdil, especially taking care of the orphans in the village. Additionally, the program gifted an Umrah pilgrimage to the mosque’s imam, along with the construction of a house for him. The Makhzen authorities did not bother to address his dire social situation, similar to the situations of hundreds like him who were abandoned. Will the house that Ghaith will build for the imam of one village solve the problem of all the victims in all villages? Who will take care of the orphans of the remaining earthquake-stricken villages, after the Makhzen washed its hands of them?
