Algeria’s General Union of Traders and Artisans Expresses Unwavering Support for the President’s Ambitious Economic Roadmap and Pledges Nationwide Mobilization to Ensure its Success
Algiers, Algeria | April 14th, 2025 — The General Union of Algerian Traders and Artisans (UGCAA) has issued a powerful endorsement of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent economic address, delivered during the National Meeting with Economic Operators held at the “Palace of Nations – Club des Pins” on Sunday. The union described the speech as a “transformational moment” that lays the groundwork for an inclusive, innovation-driven economy and the building of a new, prosperous Algeria.
In an official communiqué signed by the Secretary-General of the UGCAA, Issam Bedrissi, the organization voiced its full and unequivocal support for the contents of the presidential address. The union hailed what it described as serious and strategic orientations articulated by the Head of State, which reflect a clear and firm political will to accelerate national economic recovery and achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
A particular highlight for the UGCAA was the President’s bold call to mobilize national capabilities and resources to raise Algeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to $400 billion, a figure that represents both an aspiration and a call to action. The union also welcomed the President’s explicit commitment to empowering start-ups, liberating entrepreneurial initiative, and fostering a conducive investment climate, which it said were central pillars in the march toward economic modernization.
“President Tebboune’s speech presents an inspiring roadmap for economic revival,” the UGCAA stated, adding, “it reflects a profound belief in the creative energy of Algerians and the strategic role of local enterprise in building a diversified, competitive economy.”
In this context, the UGCAA emphasized its ongoing readiness to actively contribute to the success of Algeria’s economic pathway, by mobilizing its extensive national network of traders, artisans, and economic actors across all 58 wilayas. The union reaffirmed its strategic alignment with the state’s vision to build a new Algeria, anchored in productive dynamism, industrial innovation, and youth-led transformation.
Further, the statement characterized President Tebboune’s address as “an inspiring roadmap” capable of galvanizing both the public and private sectors around a shared national purpose. It urged economic institutions and stakeholders to unify efforts in a spirit of partnership and collective responsibility, emphasizing that a genuine and lasting economic awakening can only emerge from a coherent and synergistic collaboration between the state and the real economy.
“This is a moment that demands national cohesion,” the UGCAA declared, “where all actors must rally behind a common vision to ensure the emergence of an Algeria that is not only economically sovereign but also globally competitive.”
The union concluded by reiterating its confidence in the President’s leadership and economic foresight, and its determination to play a decisive role in supporting policies that place national production, entrepreneurial freedom, and youth-driven innovation at the heart of Algeria’s transformation agenda.
