Algiers- Algeria, May 10, 2024 – The resolution demanding the recognition of Palestine as a full member state, akin to other nations globally, was presented for voting at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday and received a significant majority of favorable votes.
This resolution, advocating for Palestine’s admission to the UN as a full member state, garnered 143 votes in favor, 9 against, and 25 abstentions. It’s important to note that adoption of the resolution required a two-thirds majority vote in the United Nations General Assembly.
With this vote, the UN General Assembly acknowledges Palestine as eligible for full membership status and refers the request, made on behalf of the Arab group, to the UN Security Council for “favorable reconsideration.”
