ALGIERS- The United Nations Security Council members unanimously rejected any plan for the forced displacement of Palestinians from their lands, expressing concern about recent statements by Zionist ministers encouraging the mass transfer of civilians from Gaza to third countries.
As a reminder, during a Security Council meeting addressing concerns about the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, Algeria, which called for the meeting, urged the international community, especially the Security Council, to unanimously reject the forced displacement of Palestinians.
Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Amar Bendjama, recalled the statements of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who emphasized that “what is happening in Gaza will remain a mark of infamy in the conscience of humanity,” stressing that “no one in this room should remain silent in the face of these projects. Silence is synonymous with complicity.”
“Our position must be clear. We must reject the forced displacement of Palestinians. Everyone must understand that Palestinians have no other place than their land. Any forced displacement is a blatant violation of international law, especially Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention,” he added.
Ecuador, Sierra Leone, and Slovenia also clearly rejected the forced transfer of the civilian population in violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, emphasizing that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
The United Kingdom also strongly rejected any statement proposing the resettlement of Palestinians outside of Gaza. Guyana and Mozambique followed suit, deeming forced transfers and imposed restrictions on humanitarian aid “unacceptable.”
Switzerland also rejected and condemned all statements aiming to expel civilians from the occupied Palestinian territory, including Gaza, recalling that the Geneva Conventions prohibit the forced transfer of populations, which can constitute a war crime.
