United States Ambassador Aubin Highlights U.S. Commitment to Agricultural Cooperation in Algeria

Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria- September 26, 2023- The United States Ambassador to Algeria, Ms. Elisabeth Moore Aubin, embarked on a two-day visit to Tizi-Ouzou on Monday, reaffirming her nation’s dedication to enhancing and deepening its relations with Algeria. In particular, Ambassador Aubin emphasized the significance of advancing cooperation in the realm of agriculture.
“We want to broaden and deepen our economic relations with Algeria, with a priority focus on the agriculture sector,” declared Ambassador Aubin during her visit. She noted that President Tebboune had conveyed his commitment to prioritizing food security, and in response, the United States is keen on exploring numerous avenues for collaboration, including American genetics in chicken breeding and cattle farming.
Ambassador Aubin underscored the immense potential for collaboration between the two nations in agriculture and livestock, highlighting the striking similarities between Algerian and American landscapes and terrains. She stated, “There are many opportunities for us to work together in the field of agriculture and livestock.”
To facilitate this cooperation, Ambassador Aubin highlighted the existence of specialized services within the American diplomatic representation, including an office dedicated to agriculture. She assured, “If there are proposals and needs, we have the capacity to find American partners in any domain.”
However, the scope of cooperation is not limited solely to agriculture, as Ambassador Aubin stressed the intention to expand collaboration across various sectors, including industry, tourism, academia, and more. “We are also here to strengthen the bonds between our two peoples, particularly in the realm of education and the teaching of the English language,” she affirmed.
Ms. Aubin disclosed that she had already initiated discussions with the wali of Tizi-Ouzou regarding potential cooperation in education. She elaborated, “There are opportunities for us to work together in areas such as English language instruction, scientific research, and academic partnerships. We can assist in finding partners in the United States to further these endeavors.”
During her visit, Ambassador Aubin engaged in discussions with local authorities, including Wali Djilali Doumi, as well as officials from the Chamber of Commerce of Tizi-Ouzou and representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture. Her itinerary also included a planned visit to the Sahel village in the Bouzeguène region on Tuesday. There, she intends to engage with local stakeholders to explore opportunities in crafts, tourism, and partnership development.
