ALGIERS- Renowned Qatari sports commentator, Hafid Derradji, questions the ethical and financial aspects of the contract between national team coach Djamel Belmadi and the Algerian Football Federation (FAF). In a Facebook post, Derradji suggests that the contract may have been primarily financial, contrary to what was communicated to the public.
Derradji draws attention to Belmadi’s current demand for all his dues until 2026, amounting to over 7 million euros, following his departure. In contrast, FAF President, Walid Sadi, proposed compensations not exceeding 624,000 euros, equivalent to three months’ salary.
The Algerian commentator reveals that Belmadi has received over 12 million euros in salaries and bonuses since 2018, highlighting the absence of specific performance goals in his contract, unlike standard agreements with coaches worldwide.
Moreover, Derradji clarifies that it was Belmadi who publicly announced his departure after the match against Mauritania, and the news was leaked to French media. The FAF, upon return to Algeria, reached an amicable agreement with Belmadi and his coaching staff, except Belmadi, who insisted on claiming his full entitlements.
In conclusion, Derradji raises the question of whether Belmadi will resort to FIFA to settle the matter and receive all his outstanding payments, emphasizing that Belmadi’s repeated failures make his continuation with the national team unlikely. Meanwhile, the FAF has refrained from dismissing him until all his dues are settled.
