Enhancing bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Venezuela
Caracas and Algiers are preparing to celebrate 52 years of diplomatic relations, which have been framed with respect for sovereignty, independence, and non-interference in the internal affairs of peoples. Over the years, the two countries have inked various agreements in different spheres, including energy, education, culture, and trade.
Last year, the “Algeria-Venezuela” parliamentary friendship group was set up at the headquarters of the People’s National Assembly (APN) with the objective of promoting all-out cooperation and further deepening dialogue between the two parliamentary institutions.
In June of last year, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Mr. Nicolas Maduro, paid a two-day working and friendship visit to Algeria. During his visit, he had fruitful talks with the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, marked by keenness on bolstering relations and eye-to-eye views on regional and international issues. Algeria and Venezuela noted a convergence of views on various international issues of common interest, particularly with regard to the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes, as well as the situation in Libya.
On February 2, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Amar Belani, co-chaired the second session of Algerian-Venezuelan political consultations in Algiers with the Venezuelan Deputy Minister of External Relations, in charge of Africa, Yuri Alexandre Pimentel Moura. This session provided an opportunity to review the state of bilateral cooperation and the ways and means of its promotion in various fields, as well as the exchange of views on regional and international issues of common interest.
In this vein, the two diplomats reaffirmed their common will to work towards revitalizing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy, agriculture, science, university education, air transport, tourism, culture, economic exchanges, and the exploration of business opportunities.
