Vietnam Boosts Trade Promotion in Algerian Locality: Opportunities for Bilateral Cooperation

ALGIERS, April 11, 2024- The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Algeria’s Béjaia Province, under the leadership of Chairman Mamasse Samir, has extended a warm invitation to Vietnamese businesses to consider investing in the Algerian locality, fostering cooperation with local partners for mutual benefit.
During a seminar jointly organized by the chamber and the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria, Chairman Samir emphasized Béjaia’s commitment to providing favorable conditions for foreign investors, including attractive tax incentives and opportunities for industrial land leasing. Notably, with its expansive 100-kilometer coastline, the province boasts significant potential for tourism development, presenting a promising avenue for investment.
Béjaia’s economic landscape is primarily characterized by industries such as food processing, wood and paper, metallurgy, mechanics, electricity, electronics, construction materials, and textiles, Chairman Samir highlighted. Moreover, several local enterprises actively engage in importing commodities such as coffee and spices from Vietnam, indicating existing trade synergies ripe for further exploration.
Trade Counsellor Hoàng Đức Nhuận provided valuable insights into Vietnam’s economic landscape and its burgeoning trade relationship with Algeria. Notably, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Algeria surged to an estimated $250 million in 2023, marking a significant 68% year-on-year increase.
Furthermore, Counsellor Nhuận extended an invitation to Algerian businesses to participate in the Vietnam International Sourcing exhibition, slated for June 6-8, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City. The event aims to facilitate connections within international supply chains, presenting ample opportunities for collaboration and expansion.
The seminar also featured the display of catalogues and samples showcasing Vietnamese agricultural products, including coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, cinnamon, anise, coconut, and plywood, eliciting keen interest from attendees.
Business representatives from Béjaia expressed their desire to import various commodities from Vietnam, including raw coffee, cashew nuts, sugar, soybeans, sunflower seeds, as well as packaging materials and cork production supplies. Additionally, they sought potential partners in textile production, agricultural processing, refrigeration equipment, logistics, and tourism.
Conversely, Algerian businesses expressed interest in exporting olive oil, caromic powder, margarine, and sauces to Vietnam, signaling promising avenues for bilateral trade expansion and economic cooperation between the two nations.
