Algiers, Algeria | July 25th, 2024 — On July 25, President Tô Lâm of Vietnam received Algerian Minister of Moudjahidine and Rights Holders, Laid Rebiga, at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. The visit was significant as it coincided with Rebiga’s participation in the funeral ceremonies for Vietnam’s late Secretary-General, Nguyên Phu Trong, reflecting Algeria’s deep respect and condolences.
During their meeting, President Tô Lâm lauded Nguyên Phu Trong as a remarkable leader whose dedicated efforts greatly advanced Vietnam’s development. He expressed gratitude for the condolences letter from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and affirmed that Vietnam would always value the warm sentiments extended by Algeria. President Tô Lâm also reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to maintaining a policy of independence while strengthening ties with traditional partners, especially Algeria. He extended an official invitation to President Tebboune to visit Vietnam in the near future.
Minister Laid Rebiga, in turn, conveyed President Tebboune’s sincere condolences and highlighted Algeria’s deep sorrow over the passing of Nguyên Phu Trong. Rebiga, as per a statement from the Algerian Foreign Affairs Ministry, emphasized Algeria’s appreciation for the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries and committed to further enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors.
