Walid Sadi Speaks Out on Petkovic’s Appointment as New Coach of Algerian National Football Team

ALGIERS- In light of the recent appointment of Bosnian coach Vladimir Petkovic as the head of the Algerian national football team, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) President Walid Sadi shared insights into the selection process and rationale behind the decision.
“Petkovic is the best fit for the national team. After considering a short-list of three coaches compiled by an ad-hoc committee, which also included Portuguese candidates Carlos Queiroz, with the latter excusing himself, and José Peseiro, we ultimately chose Petkovic based on several criteria, including his experience with the Swiss national team,” stated Sadi in an interview with the official news agency, APS.
The FAF announced on Thursday the appointment of 60-year-old Vladimir Petkovic as the new head coach of the Algerian national team, succeeding Djamel Belmadi following the team’s elimination in the group stage of the postponed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (now scheduled for 2024) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Petkovic is expected to arrive in Algiers on Sunday and will host a press conference at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki on Monday, where he will discuss his plans and vision for the team.
Sadi’s remarks shed light on the meticulous selection process undertaken by the FAF, emphasizing Petkovic’s credentials and suitability for the role. The decision reflects the federation’s commitment to revitalizing the national team and charting a path forward for success in international competitions.
