ALGIERS- In a surprising turn of events, a former Moroccan military officer, Salihi Boucheaib, has decided to break his 23-year silence, exposing what he describes as rampant corruption within the Moroccan monarchy. This move comes in the wake of another high-profile revelation by former officer Abdelillah Issou, indicating a growing trend of dissent among dissident officers.

Boucheaib, in a brief video shared on Facebook, expressed his decision to no longer remain silent about the inner workings of the Moroccan military and the corruption embedded within the regime. His revelation follows a pattern of officers feeling compelled to speak out, possibly triggered by the controversies surrounding the Moroccan government’s normalization of ties with Israel.

The officer, who defected from the Moroccan Royal Army in 2000, cited the regime’s betrayal and normalization with the Zionist entity as a primary reason for his decision to end his long silence. He highlighted the atrocities committed by Zionist forces against the Palestinian people and criticized the Moroccan regime for aligning itself with a nation responsible for such actions.

Boucheaib, visibly disturbed by the images of suffering in Gaza, pointed to a second reason for breaking his silence—the earthquake that exposed the harsh living conditions in the Atlas Mountains and isolated regions. The officer stressed the urgent need to address the plight of those affected by the earthquake.

Former Moroccan military officer Boucheaib has opted to conclude his message saying: “No to the tax of humiliation and enslavement.” While leaving much of the suspense behind, he wrapped up his intervention with the phrase “to be continued,” signaling a series of exposés on the machinations of the regime and the corruption within the royal army. Without disclosing the date of the upcoming video, it is certain to bring forth numerous surprises, causing discomfort among the regime loyalists.

As dissenting voices from within the military gain momentum, the Moroccan regime faces a challenging period ahead, grappling with the fallout from its foreign policies and domestic crises.
