ALGIERS- The CEO of the Sonatrach Group, Toufik Hakkar, received, last week, the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Algeria, Janna van der Velde, said a press release from the diplomatic representation on its Facebook page.

According to the same source, the meeting made it possible to identify avenues for cooperation in the field of clean and sustainable energies.

“The Embassy of the Netherlands in Algeria facilitates this year the participation of a high-level Algerian delegation in the world summit of hydrogen, which will be held from May 9 to 11, 2023, in Rotterdam” added the press release, which specified that “Sonatrach will be represented at this event along with other important national actors”.

“We are looking to forge partners in Algeria to develop activities in the field of green hydrogen,” declared Janna van der Velde, on the sidelines of her participation in the 12th edition of the Renewable Energies, Clean Energies, and Development Fair (ERA), which was held in October 2022 at the “Mohamed Benahmed” convention center in Oran.

“The energy transition is a very important objective for the Dutch government, which has made a very clear choice in relation to switching to renewable energies as soon as possible,” she explained.

“This option pushes us to develop projects and activities, not only in the Netherlands but also internationally, to support this energy transition and find new sources of energy”, she underlined, while noting that “Algeria has a strong potential in terms of renewable energies, solar energy in particular, but also in other sources such as hydrogen”.

The World Hydrogen Summit (WHS, or “world hydrogen summit”), which brings together under one roof some 8,000 decision-makers from more than a hundred countries, is the largest international event dedicated to the hydrogen sector.

The conference attracts top speakers, including energy ministers and CEOs from around the world. The exhibition will expose the novelties in hydrogen, including cutting-edge technologies, and will provide networking and partnership opportunities. In addition, the conference will include a visit to the project sites of the hydrogen network in the port of Rotterdam.
