ALGIERS– The Director General of Control and Regulation of Activities at the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion, Sami Koli, confirmed, on Thursday, that the production of 5 Litre edible oil cans and semolina in bags of 25 kilograms will not be suspended, reported the official agency APS.
Mr. Koli said that it was agreed during the meetings held with the six operators in the field of state-subsidized soybean oil refining, to release an additional quantity estimated at 10,000 tons to meet the market’s increasing demands during the holy month of Ramadan, explaining that this quantity will be produced mainly in 1 and 2 liter formats.
The daily production of edible oil currently fluctuates between 3,500 and 4,000 tonnes, “while the real market’s needs fluctuate between 1,600 and 1,800 tonnes per day”, which means that the supply is largely sufficient, according to Mr. Koli.
Thus, “we are not talking today about suspending 5-litre cans”, but rather about additional production for the month of Ramadan, which will be mainly in the form of 1 and 2-litre cans,” confirmed the same manager.
