Algiers, Algeria | August 19th, 2024 — Hassan Kaabia, the newly appointed deputy chief of the Zionist liaison office in Rabat, faces widespread condemnation for inviting Moroccan journalists to Tel Aviv while Gaza suffers under relentless bombardment by the Zionist Occupation Forces.

Amidst an escalating war on Gaza, Hassan Kaabia, the newly appointed deputy chief of the Zionist liaison office in Rabat, has ignited outrage across Morocco and beyond. His recent invitation to Moroccan journalists to visit Tel Aviv this September has been deemed highly insensitive and provocative, given the ongoing massacre of Palestinian civilians by the Zionist Occupation Forces (ZOF).

Kaabia’s invitation comes at a time when Gaza is being ravaged by a brutal military campaign that has resulted in catastrophic civilian casualties and the obliteration of vital infrastructure. Observers in Rabat, alongside a former Moroccan minister, have strongly criticized the timing of this diplomatic maneuvers, labeling it as deeply inappropriate amidst the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. “This is a blind war,” the former minister stated, “killing dozens of civilians every day and devastating the civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.”

Kaabia, who assumed his post in Morocco in August, is no stranger to controversy. Before his current role, he served as the Arabic-language spokesperson for the Zionist Foreign Ministry, where he was involved in managing relations with the Moroccan press during the scandal surrounding David Govrin. Govrin, the former head of the Zionist office in Rabat, was embroiled in charges of sexual harassment, ethical violations, and illegally acquired benefits.

The appointment of Kaabia has raised concerns not only due to his professional background but also because of his inflammatory remarks regarding the sacred Palestinian cause. Last year, following the Zionist entity’s devastating assault on Gaza in October, Kaabia referred to supporters of the Palestinian resistance as “not human,” a statement that sparked widespread condemnation on social media and further tarnished his reputation.

Kaabia’s past as a military officer also adds to the discomfort surrounding his appointment. For nearly two decades, he served in the ZOF, participating in various incursions and suppressions of Palestinian uprisings. In 2002, he transitioned to a diplomatic career, where he was tasked with strengthening relations between the Zionist entity and Arab countries. One of his primary strategies involved organizing visits for Arab officials and journalists to the occupied territories in an effort to promote normalization.

In 2007, Kaabia became the first Muslim citizen of the Zionist entity to serve as a consul, taking up a post in Alexandria, Egypt. His appointment was widely viewed as a calculated move to circumvent the “popular siege” faced by Zionist diplomats in the Arab world, where official normalization efforts continue to clash with widespread public opposition.

However, Kaabia’s latest diplomatic maneuver—a highly publicized invitation to Moroccan journalists to visit Tel Aviv—has been met with widespread backlash, especially as Gaza endures relentless bombardment.

The ongoing Zionist assault on Gaza has claimed the lives of at least 40,000 Palestinian civilians, with countless more missing beneath the rubble.
